Office Manager:
Sharry Bennett - joined the team in January 2006. 
She is a native of Sturgis, SD and brings years of
bookkeeping experience to SVH. Prior to coming to
the hospital, she worked for both the
Spearfish Eye Care Center for 11 years, and
Dr. Stearns, an Orthopedic Surgeon, for 2 years.
Receptionists:
Birgit Perkins - an Alaska native, joined our staff in 2005.
She performs a variety of tasks including inventory control,
ordering manager, lab assistant and receptionist.
Erika Bassett- a native of Valley Springs, SD, has lived in the Black Hills area since 1990.
She previously worked road construction for Hills Materials before joining our team in July 2006.
Lucy Cummings -Originally from Amersfoort, Holland and moved to the Black Hills area in 1990. She has worked as a veterinary receptionist for over seven years and has enjoyed the opportunity to be a team member at the Equine Center ever since April 2007.
Veterinary Technicians:
Monica Janes, RVT- a native of Columbus, OH, Monica has an AAS degree in Veterinary Technology from Bel-Rea Institute in Denver, CO. She previously worked as an administrative assistant in Colorado and Ohio. Monica brings a special love and compassion for animals to the Sturgis Veterinary Hospital team after going through multiple surgeries with her own pet.
Amberleigh Hoots, RVT- moved to Rapid City from Killdeer, North Dakota. Her passion for animals from a very early age has led her to attaining a Baccalaureate in Equine Management in the spring of 2005 at NAU. Shortly thereafter, she continued her education and received an Associates Degree as a Veterinary Technician and is currently Board certified. Amber's outstanding equestrian skills have allowed her to partake in some highly renowned horse programs in our area. Furthermore, she has participated as a wrangler in several local film productions. We are excited to add Amber's exceptional talents and great personality to our hospital staff.
Bonnie Ismay, ASCP, certified MT- a native of Collbran, CO, has a BS degree in Microbiology from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. She has been at Sturgis Veterinary Hospital since 1975 where she has been an anesthetist, a surgical assistant and laboratory manager. She is also a charter member of the American Association of Equine Veterinary Technicians.
Michelle Calvin, RVT - Recently joined our team. Originally from McCook, Nebraska; where she worked primarily with small animals and cattle. She attained an Associates Degree as a Veterinary Technician with a minor in Production Animals from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, where she rode horses competitively for the equestrian team.
Amanda Uhlmann - Has recently graduated from NDSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Technology with minors in equine study and large animal technology.
She has always had a special place in her heart for animals, but has a special interest in equine medicine. Amanda originated from a small town in Minnesota but currently lives near Whitewood with her 3 cats Cosmo, Wickette and Tinka and her horses Woodrow and Gypsy. She loves spending time in the Black Hills to enjoy all of the activities such as hiking, hunting and horseback riding.
Kristi Olson, RVT- Has a B.A. from North Dakota State University in Veterinary Technology and moved here after spending 10 years in Fargo, ND, to join our team in August of 2008. In the near future Kristi will be able to use her 4 years of grooming experience, when we open our new grooming facility. Kristi enjoys many outdoor activities such as horseback riding, golfing biking and camping. She also loves to hang out with her pets; Torin her dog and her cats Kodah and Titas.
