Larry Carpenter DVM
Dr Carpenter is a native of Western South Dakota. He earned his Veterinary Degree from Iowa State University in 1982. He completed a 3-year Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in 1991. Dr Carpenter holds a Masters Degree in Veterinary Surgery and was certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Small Animal Surgical Specialist in 1992.
Dr Carpenter served in the US Army Veterinary Corps for 25 years before returning to South Dakota to establish Veterinary Surgical Service in Sturgis in 2003. During his military career Dr Carpenter attained the rank of Colonel and was the Director of the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Veterinary Service. In that capacity he was the head of Clinical Services for our nation's canine soldiers at the Military Working Dog Hospital - a part of the DOD Dog Training Center at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas.
Dr Carpenter has authored several scientific papers and presented numerous continuing education courses for practicing veterinarians.
